Pedalling towards a brighter future: Ugandan cyclists shine at the UCI Cycling World Championships

In the world of cycling, the UCI Cycling World Championships stands as an event that gathers the finest riders from across the globe, each aiming for triumph on the world stage.

Yet, this year’s championships are set to be particularly momentous, as they mark a profound milestone for two exceptional young adults from Uganda – Paul Lemuria and Lorot Laurence.

Hailing from the streets of Jinja, these extraordinary individuals have overcome momentous obstacles and earned their esteemed positions in this prestigious competition.

Their inspiring story is one that the Modo25 team is immensely proud of, as they have been supported to the UCI Championships with the help of 1moreChild.

1moreChild is our charity partner here at Modo25. Raising money for charity is one of the cornerstones of Modo25. The agency has a bigger purpose at heart and was named after one of the children at the 1moreChild orphanage in Jinja, Uganda.

As a company, Modo25 donates a percentage of profits each year to support 1moreChild and encourage fundraising for local Yorkshire charities.

The journey of cycling dreams takes flight

Paul Lomuria and Lorot Laurence, both remarkable cyclists from Uganda, are primed to take part in the UCI Cycling World Championships. Beyond the opportunity to vie at the pinnacle of cycling, this event serves as a platform to illuminate their remarkable paths.

Overcoming adversity: A triumph of determination

The roads travelled by Paul and Laurence have been marked by numerous obstacles, defied with determination. Emerging from disadvantaged backgrounds, they encountered scarce resources, a dearth of conventional training facilities, and financial constraints. Yet, ignited by an unwavering passion for cycling and the unwavering support of 1moreChild, they’ve shattered these barriers and pursued their aspirations with fervour.

The impact of 1moreChild: A guiding light

1moreChild, a modest yet impactful charity rooted in Jinja, Uganda, has played an indispensable role in the lives of these budding athletes. With a mission to uplift vulnerable children through vital resources – nourishment, shelter, clothing, medical care, and education – the organisation has fostered an environment wherein children conquer adversity and realise their potential.

Ride25: Uniting for a purposeful pedal

In alignment with 1moreChild’s vision, Ride25 has emerged as a catalytic force, propelling Paul and Laurence onto the global cycling stage, and by extension, offering a beacon of hope.

Empowering aspirations, one pedal stroke at a time
