Consumer confidence rises but more questions than answers remain
The recently released, GfK Consumer Confidence Barometer reveals that as optimism around personal finances rises, the public remains hesitant to spread the wealth. The UK public is feeling more hopeful about the economy’s future performance, but there’s a danger this sentiment doesn’t reflect reality, according to GfK’s latest Consumer Confidence Barometer. Although things have continued to improve with marginal increases across all measures that make up the index, overall the picture is still negative.
Bing Webmaster Tools disavow link tool is going away
Bing Webmaster Tools is officially removing it’s disavow links tool in October 2023. The tool, launched in June 2012, was for site owners to tell Bing which links they didn’t want to be considered when assessing the site overall. Google have been saying for a while that there is no need to do this anymore and that they are able to recognise and discount spam links, so this change helps to solidify that – rather than audit for old low-quality links, spend your time on creating new, useful content.
Google Updates Search Console Shopping Tab Listings Report
Google have introduced a new Shopping tab into it’s Search Console reports to give e-commerce store owners more control over their product listings. The new report includes notifications to ensure your products are visible on Google. Your Merchant Center account must be associated with your Search Console property to get these new features.
Google Ads apologizes after automatic data migration causes confusion
If you haven’t already then it’s worth checking your GA4 setup if things have changed recently. Towards the end of last month, Google automatically imported GA UA settings across if you hadn’t opted out. Even if you had a fully working GA4 this overwrite would happen which meant many users started to see issues with unwanted changes being made. Google have apologised for the confusion but there’s no way to simply revert so checking over your settings is a must.
Google quietly raised ad prices to boost search revenue, says executive
As we maybe all expected but never had proof. Google have been raising prices across their advertising network by 5% or even up to 10% which is not caused by competition. They used this during ‘dry spells’ when advertising wasn’t expected to bring in as much revenue. Although this trial is taking place in America, if Google are found to be breaking rules it could mean splitting their ads business from their search business in the long run.
TikTok explores partnership with Google to drive search traffic
TikTok is emerging as the search engine of choice for many younger users, the partnership could help Google shore up market share. According to a new report from Business Insider, TikTok and Google are currently exploring a new partnership, which would integrate Google search prompts, and potentially, at some stage, even results, into TikTok’s own search stream.
