Your rankings aren’t telling you what your customers see

Search for almost any commercial keyword today, and before you reach the first organic listing, you’ll probably see paid ads, an AI Overview, shopping results, local businesses, videos, People Also Ask, images, or Reddit discussions. By the time customers reach what we used to call Position 1, they’ve already seen much of the page.

The line is whether a post contains something only its author or their organisation could provide, a client outcome, a first-party data point, or a specific internal observation. AI used for research and drafting is fine. AI used for thinking is what gets caught.

OpenAI brings product carousels to ChatGPT ads

OpenAI is rolling out a product carousel format for ChatGPT ads, letting multiple products from a single retailer appear in one placement rather than the single-product unit that’s run for five months. The system pulls product data directly from retailer feeds, similar to Google’s Shopping feed, and OpenAI’s own platform decides whether to serve a single ad or a carousel rather than leaving that choice to advertisers. The mechanics are already built to support competing retailers in the same carousel.
